On the way to Svalbard – Day 2 & 3

On the way to Svalbard – by Michelle Alten

Day 2

Travel to Longyearbyen

Off to the Arctic—almost.  We are eager to reach Svalbard and begin our search for polar bears and other Arctic wildlife, but fog is keeping us an extra day in Oslo.  Locking in the Longyearbyen airport, clouds are preventing all flights from landing.

Day 3

The Polar Pioneer Nikon D4, Lens:24-70mm f/2.8G, Focal Length:	24mm, Aperture: f/10, Shutter Speed: 1/400s, photographing from a zodiac you always have to calculate for the movement. That's why I used a Shutter Speed of 1/400s

Finally, we are able to make the trip and reach our ship-the Polar Pioneer, a Russian spy ship from the Cold War era.  Its high ice rating and ice-hardened hull will give us a sense of security in the pack ice.
