First Days in Provence

by Michelle Alten

In Provence, France, we have begun exploring the region by walking the picturesque streets and squares of Aix en Provence.  Visiting our friends Sylvie and Peter, and researching a future photo tour, we plan to cover lots of ground.  But first, a little time to adjust to the time change.  Sylvie took us to drink a luxurious hot chocolate in a recently renovated museum.  Next we hiked a trail at Mont Saint Victoire where Cezanne did so many paintings of the stunning craggy mountain.  Lunch at a nearby restaurant included duck with braised Belgian endive and, for me Ile Flottant—a meringue floating in a crème Anglaise—and for Wolf a carefully sculpted chocolate dessert!
