Day 1 – At the center of Aigues-Mortes’ main square stands Saint Louis (King Louis IX), leader of the Seventh Crusade in 1248. Around him still stand ramparts echoing this age of religious zeal and conquest. Today this quintessential French town with restaurants where lamb roasts in wood ovens, boulangeries where fougasse sends a buttery fragrance out into the streets, and outdoor cafes where guitar players serenade with gypsy tunes, is a place where we lose ourselves in the Camargue.
