Kenya Photo Tour Day 4,5 & 6 – Samburu
Unfortunately the internet is not everywhere in Kenya so I was unable to blog and post the daily story. After Amboseli our next stop was in Samburu, a dry area with some species not found anywhere else in Kenya such as the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Gerenuk, Oryx, and Somali ostrich. In the afternoon we went on a game drive and found a Cheetah with three about seven months old cubs. Next we went back to see lions on a zebra kill we saw already on the way from the airport to the camp, followed by finding a leopard sitting on a huge rock on the bottom of a hill. Seeing all three big cats in one afternoon is amazing. I always try to teach composition on my photo tours. Seeing the leopard was a great opportunity because she looked not stressed and was relaxed overlooking the valley. I encouraged my clients to zoom out and show the environment as well. I always found that when people photographing wildlife, they try to get close-ups and many will never show the location. Here we had the perfect opportunity to practice different compositions:

After getting a good close-up, I usually try to include the environment with different compositions.

Even though the terrain was very rough, our driver was able to preposition our Landrover and we got a different angle.
