Exploring Kyoto

Wolf and I said good-bye to our Wolfie travelers in the Japanese style—waving until their mini-bus for the airport faded from sight. Sad to see them go, we are now on our own for another day in Kyoto.  We used the local buses to get around the city, and we have advice for other travelers.  The bus system works very well for visitors!  Get the day pass for 500 yen at the Kyoto station.  Then you can use the bus map to find the buses that go to various temples.  We took bus 100 to the Ginkakuji Temple (Silver Pavilion) and to the Kyoto Handicraft Center. Later with the 206 we headed back to Gion and Yasaka Shrine.  Be warned other travelers, at rush hour we had to wait in quite a line at a bus stop and then packed in with many other tourists and commuters.

The electronic signboard in front of the bus lets you know the upcoming stops and gives you advise on which attractions are there to see.
