Day 8 and 9 we traveled back to Buenos Aires and onto El Calafate

Day 10 -- This morning, in our hotel garden, a crested caracara soars in, spreading its majestic white tail as it lands briefly on the lawn and then flies up to a nearby tree.  An ibis sails by the window, as a little black border collie excitedly dashes about herding a flock of sheep.

At Los Glaciares National Park, we head out by boat to see the Moreno Glacier, a great sheet of ice sliced with giant turquoise crevasses.  As we look on, a massive chunk of ice calves from the glacier.  Following our boat trip, a park guide takes us to the nesting place of Magellanic woodpecker.  We find not only the large woodpecker, but also a curious culpeo, sometimes known as Andean fox.
